What Is Clomid (Clomiphene Citrate)?

Clomiphene Citrate is a selective estrogen receptor modulator that works by blocking estrogen receptors at the hypothalamus and pituitary gland. This blockade removes the negative feedback loop that suppressed testosterone production during a steroid cycle, causing the pituitary to release increased amounts of luteinising hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH). These hormones signal the testes to resume natural testosterone production.

Clomid was originally developed as a fertility medication and remains in clinical use for that purpose. In performance enhancement, it is the cornerstone of virtually every PCT protocol, either used alone or in combination with Tamoxifen (Nolvadex).

PCT Protocols Using Clomid

Standard PCT (After Testosterone or Mild Cycles)

Clomid 50mg per day for 4 weeks, beginning 14 days after the last injection of a long-ester compound like Testosterone Enanthate or Sustanon. This is sufficient for most beginner and intermediate cycles.

Aggressive PCT (After Stronger Cycles)

After cycles involving compounds like Trenbolone, Deca, or multiple compounds, a stronger protocol is often used: Clomid 100mg per day for weeks 1-2, then 50mg per day for weeks 3-4, combined with Tamoxifen 40mg per day for weeks 1-2 and 20mg per day for weeks 3-4.

Clomid + Nolvadex Combination

The most common PCT approach combines Clomid 50mg with Tamoxifen 20mg daily for 4 weeks. The two SERMs work through slightly different mechanisms and complement each other for more robust hormonal recovery.

When to Start PCT

PCT timing depends on the ester half-life of the compounds used. After long-ester injectables (Enanthate, Cypionate, Decanoate), begin PCT approximately 14 days after the last injection. After short-ester compounds (Propionate, Acetate), begin 3-4 days after the last injection. After oral-only cycles, begin 1-2 days after the last dose.

Side Effects

Common Clomid side effects include visual disturbances (blurred vision, floaters), mood changes, headaches, and nausea. Most side effects are dose-dependent and resolve after discontinuation. If visual disturbances occur, reduce the dose or discontinue and consult a healthcare professional.
